  • 1 lb Ground Beef (85/15 blend) Substitute with ground turkey or plant-based options if desired.
  • 1 medium Onion Can use red or yellow; sautéed shallots are an option.
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce Soy sauce can be a substitute.

For the Cheese
  • 4 slices Muenster Cheese Substitute with provolone for a different taste.

For the Bread

For the Sauce

For Caramelizing

Method
 

Burger Sauce
  1. In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, dill pickle relish, and ketchup until well combined. Refrigerate while preparing the rest of the ingredients.
Caramelize Onions
  1. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium-low heat. Add onions with red wine vinegar and Worcestershire sauce, stirring occasionally for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
Prepare Patties
  1. Form ground beef into two patties, season with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce, and rub a dash of mustard on each side.
Cook Patties
  1. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until medium-well.
Grill Sandwiches
  1. Butter one side of four slices of rye bread. In the skillet, place two slices butter-side down, then layer with cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, and a beef patty. Top with muenster and another slice of buttered bread, then grill until golden brown.
