Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Cut the brioche or challah bread into thick slices, about 1-inch thick, and arrange them in a greased baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until fully combined.
  3. Pour the custard evenly over the bread slices, pressing down gently. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake uncovered for about 25-30 minutes until golden brown and set.
  5. Remove from the oven and sprinkle sugar over the top. Use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until golden.
  6. Allow to cool briefly before cutting into squares. Serve with berries, powdered sugar, and maple syrup.
