Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice your brioche or challah bread into 1-inch thick pieces and arrange them in a greased baking dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
- Pour the custard mixture over the arranged bread, ensuring every piece gets soaked. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, preferably overnight.
- Allow the dish to sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before baking. Adjust the oven rack to the center position.
- Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown and firm. Broil for an additional 2 to 3 minutes for a crispy top.
- Remove the French toast from the oven and sprinkle a thin layer of granulated sugar on top. Use a kitchen torch or broiler to caramelize the sugar until golden.
- Allow to cool for 5 minutes, then slice and serve warm topped with fresh berries, powdered sugar, and maple syrup.

Notes
Soak the bread overnight for best flavor. Watch the broiler to prevent burning sugar topping.
