Ingredients
  

For the Beef Filling
  • 1 pound Ground Beef Lean ground beef can be used for a healthier option.
  • 1 medium Onion Finely chopped and sautéed until soft.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Use fresh garlic for best results.
  • 1 packet Taco Seasoning Homemade seasoning can replace store-bought.
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
For Assembly
  • 8 pieces Tostada Shells
  • 1 cup Refried Beans Substitution: Use black or pinto beans, or mashed avocado for a vegan option.
  • 1 cup Lettuce Must be shredded.
  • 1 cup Tomatoes Diced fresh tomatoes are recommended.
  • 1 cup Cheddar Cheese
  • 1/2 cup Sour Cream Can replace with Greek yogurt for a healthier twist.
  • 1/2 cup Salsa or Pico de Gallo
  • to taste Olives & Cilantro Can be omitted based on preference.

Method
 

Steps
  1. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onions and sauté until soft, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  3. Add 1 pound of ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up as it cooks. Cook for 6-8 minutes until browned.
  4. Stir in taco seasoning, 1/4 cup of water, and salt and pepper. Cook for 5 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  5. In a separate saucepan, heat refried beans over medium heat until warm and smooth, about 3-4 minutes.
  6. On each tostada shell, spread a layer of warm refried beans, followed by the seasoned beef mixture. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and cheddar cheese.
  7. Add a dollop of sour cream and a spoonful of salsa or pico de gallo. Sprinkle with olives and cilantro as desired.
