Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, blend together the lean ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, and your seasonings—black pepper, salt, onion powder, and garlic powder—until evenly mixed. Set aside.
- Gently shape the mixture into six evenly-sized patties, about ¾ inch thick, pressing a slight indentation in the center of each patty.
- Heat a tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the hamburger patties and brown each side for about 4-5 minutes. Transfer to an oven-proof plate and keep warm.
- In the same skillet, lower the heat and add two tablespoons of butter. Whisk in three tablespoons of flour and cook until golden brown.
- Gradually pour in two cups of milk, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Simmer until thickened, around 2-3 minutes.
- Return burger patties to the skillet with the gravy and simmer gently for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Plate the hamburger steaks and generously spoon the creamy country gravy over each patty. Serve with sides like egg noodles or mashed potatoes.

Notes
Ensure not to overcrowd the skillet when browning patties for an even crust.
