  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 cup Cheddar Cheese Grated
  • 1/2 cup Milk Buttermilk can be used.
  • 1 Egg Beaten
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard Powder Optional
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper Use sparingly for less heat.
  • 1/4 cup Cold Butter Cubed

Method
 

Baking Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 220°C (425°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Sift together the self-raising flour, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Cut the cold butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the grated cheddar cheese.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and beaten egg.
  6. Create a well in the dry ingredients and gradually pour in the wet mixture, mixing gently.
  7. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently until combined.
  8. Shape the dough into a disc about 2 cm thick and cut into 8 triangles.
  9. Place cut scones on the baking sheet and brush tops with milk if desired.
  10. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving.
