Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • skillet
  • Baking dish
  • meat thermometer

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined, then shape into equal-sized patties, about ½ inch thick.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of oil. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and reaching an internal temperature of 160°F. Remove and keep warm.
  3. In the same skillet, pour in the beef broth, scraping the browned bits off the bottom. Bring to a simmer, stirring consistently. Whisk in flour until dissolved and cook until desired consistency is reached, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a greased baking dish, arrange the cooked patties in a single layer and pour the gravy over the top. Sprinkle shredded cheese and frozen peas or corn on top, if desired.
  5. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20-30 minutes, removing the foil for the last 5-10 minutes to let the cheese melt and become bubbly.
  6. Let it cool slightly for about 5 minutes before serving. Pair with mashed potatoes or rice.
